Flooding

A Flood Watch warning has been issued by the Environment Agency for Barford St Martin. Groundwater monitoring at Fonthill has reached a level indicating that flooding in Barford is possible. The Parish Council has ordered sandbags for use by residents who might be affected by flooding. Residents wishing to have sandbags should contact John Cook at the Black and White Farm Shop where the sandbags will be stored or me or any member of the Parish Council.

Parish Council meeting

The next Parish Council meeting will be on 17 January 2007 in the Community Room in the school. The agenda is on the notice boards. The March meeting will be on 21 March when Richard Britton, the Leader of Salisbury District Council, will attend and be available for questioning. More details will be published nearer the time.

Budget and Parish Business Plan

Details have been published on notice boards and on the web site (www.barford.net). The Business Plan was also distributed with Valley News.

Affordable housing

As reported in KYP 36, a further meeting with Salisbury District Council was held on 21 September at which details of the house designs and layout for 12 houses in Catherine Ford Rd in Dinton were considered and agreement reached. Revised plans were submitted to the District Council and endorsed by both Parish Councils. Unbelievably, the Forward Planning Department within the District Council, despite having been present at the meeting on 21 September, objected to the plans. An update on the situation will be given at the next Parish Council meeting.

Heavy vehicles

The huge increase in heavy vehicles, in particular container vehicles and car transporters, on their way to and from the Westfields Industrial Estate in Dinton is causing great concern amongst residents of Barford and Dinton. An update on the situation will be given at the next Parish Council meeting.

Play Area

The damage caused to the play area and to the surrounding netting has been rectified without the need to close the play area. The cost of this work will be published when it has been finally established.

School

Following agreement to the amalgamation proposals by Wiltshire County Council Barford Primary School became part of the Wilton and Barford Primary School on 1 January 2007. The members of the new Governing body will be clearer after the first meeting of Governors on 7 February 2007.
