Best Kept
Village Competition
The Parish Council has decided once again to
enter the Best Kept Village competition this year
having not entered last year because of
inconsistency of marking. It was felt that the
village was looking good and deserved to be
entered. Judging usually takes place towards the
end of May.
Skips
There will be no skips this year since the risk
of contaminants being placed in them was too
great, particularly since the Parish Council
would be responsible for decontamination which
could run to a significant sum. However, there
will be what the District Council call a manned
refuse compaction vehicle available for 5 hours
on a Saturday morning the cost of which will be
met by the District Council. No date or location
has yet been set.
Affordable Housing
The Parish Council was greatly disappointed to
learn that there turned out to be significant
differences of opinion between the District
Council and the Housing Association over design
and layout of the houses to be built in Dinton
such that the planning application was withdrawn.
No new timescale is yet available.
Speed Cameras
These appear from time to time in West St. It is
contrary to the policy of the Camera Safety
Partnership to publish details of how often they
are in place or the results of their being there.
Gateway Markings
Red gateway markings will be put in place on the
A30 Shaftesbury Rd outside the 30mph limitation
sign. This has apparently worked well in Fovant
but WCC have nevertheless been approached to see
whether any other measure could be introduced to
reduce the speed of vehicles travelling into and
out of the village on the Shaftesbury Rd.
Allotments
The renewal of the allotment lease is under
negotiation with WCC. There are plenty of
allotments available with no charge being made
until the next year commencing in October.
Clearways
The introduction of a clearway in the lay-by
outside The Haven is now thought unlikely to go
ahead.
Cemetery Tap
The tap in the cemetery has been boxed in, lagged
and turned on.
Next Parish Council
The next meeting is the Annual Parish Meeting at
which parishioners are free to raise any topic
that they wish the Parish Council to deal with.
The meeting will also elect the Chairman and
other officers for the forthcoming year.
