Best Kept
Village Competition
The Parish Council felt that there were serious
defects in the way in which the competition was
judged last year and that there was a significant
discrepancy in marks awarded from one year to the
next. It has therefore decided not to enter this
year's competition.
Elections
This year's County and Parliamentary elections
will be held on 5 May. The Polling Station will
as usual be the school. Electors should note that
Barford Parish continues to fall within the
Salisbury constituency despite the recommendation
of the Boundary Commission some time ago that we
fall in a new South West Wilts constituency. This
will probably become effective some time in the
future.
Traffic Priority System
The County Council have decided to make permanent
the current experimental system outside the
school. The carriageway will be narrowed and
signage improved. The Parish council have asked
to see in advance the revised design.
Lych Gate
The plaques are now in place and the garden in
the front of the gates tidied thanks to the help
of Cllr Booth and the provision of shrubs and
flowers by Cllr Cook. The date for the blessing
ceremony is still to be decided.
Factory Lane
The surface has been re-laid bringing it back to
its original green lane status. Hopefully the
ponding will be much reduced as a consequence.
Cemetery Fees
The Parish Council agreed to increase the level
of fees by 5%. The revised rates are published on
the notice board on the lych gate.
Affordable Housing
This continues to move forward slowly. The Raglan
Housing Association is in discussion with the
landowner in Dinton on the price. A meeting is
also planned with the Wilton Estate.
Clarence
Any member of the public is entitled to call the
freephone hot line (0800 232323) to report
deficiencies in roads or drains.
Parish Council
The next meeting will be the Annual Parish
Meeting at which members of the public will have
an opportunity to speak on matters that concern
them most. A Chairman for the coming year and
other postholders will also be elected.
