Best Kept Village Competition

Barford came 5th out of six entries in the medium size village competition. We believe that the judging was not entirely fair and we have lodged a protest.

Parish Council meetings

The next meeting is on July 28 with the prospect of a special meeting on 4 August to discuss Affordable Housing.

Affordable Housing

The housing needs survey in Dinton has been completed. When added to the needs demonstrated by the earlier survey in Barford, there appears to be a case for the construction of affordable houses - mostly for renting rather than purchasing. This, together with possible sites for building, will be discussed at the special PC meeting on 4 August.

Fishing

The Parish Council has secured agreement with the Hurdcott Estate to fish in the Nadder upstream of the bridge opposite the bottom of Dairy Rd. Details have been publicised.

Village Visits

The Tisbury Sports Centre will be in the school field between 2pm and 4pm on Monday 26 July. The formula will be much as in previous years. The Parish Council will be meeting the cost of £35.

Planning

Planning permission has been granted for the conservatory at the back of the school house to assist with early years' education. Permission was also given to the MoT testing bay in Les Hillyard's yard in Duck Lane. All planning applications are being considered by meetings of the Parish Council Planning Committee in public in the Garden Room of the School House. Details of times and dates are given on the notice boards.

School Field

Electricity supply has been laid on to the pavilion in the school field in Duck Lane. This made a tremendous difference to the operation of the fete. The pavilion is available to be hired for any reasonable purpose. Contact either the Parish Council or the Fete Committee for details. A storage shed will soon be erected alongside the pavilion.

Mobile Phones

SDC have advised in a recent bulletin that all mobile phones have a unique 15 digit code number which can be accessed by dialling *#06#. The phone can immobilised by the service provider if they are given the code even if the SIM card is changed.

Wilton Police

Wilton Police bulletins are issued from time to time. They are posted on the notice board by the church.

Lytch Gate

Frank Coombes has been authorised by the Parish Council to commence work on the construction of the lytch gate at the entrance to the West St cemetery. The design is that shown in a recent Barford Bulletin.
