BEST KEPT
VILLAGE COMPETITION
We came 4th and last in the County round of the
competition. Scoring between 15-20 marls in each
category put us in the "very good"
range of marks. Our total mark was 91 out of a
possible 120 with the winner scoring 101 marks.
Some hedges and fences were noted as being in
poor condition but we were most badly let down by
the poor condition of the play area (see below).
PLAY AREA
The play area and kick about area are in a
disgraceful state. The thistles are thriving
amongst the bark and there is huge amount of
litter. We will fail the ROSPA inspection which
normally takes place in September. The judges in
the Best Kept Village competition said that in
its present condition the play area would not be
a safe place for young children. This is a pity
since we have just spent several hundred pounds
rectifying the equipment. The next Parish Council
will be asked to consider closing the area
completely unless something is done in the
meanwhile.
SCHOOL TRAVEL PLAN AND PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
We still await details of the County Council's
proposals for the area outside the school
although clearly some measuring has taken place.
HARD STANDING FOR PARKING IN THE SCHOOL
FIELD
The Parish Council's planning application has
been turned down on grounds of it being a visual
intrusion and detrimental to the local community.
SPEEDING IN WEST STREET
I am in touch with Ringmer Parish Council about
their plans to operate speed cameras in
conjunction with East Sussex police. I will
report at the next Parish Council meeting.
BUS STOP
WCC propose to relocate the bus stop presently
outside The New House/Briden House in West St
further up to a position outside the Church.
Wilts and Dorset will put up a bus pole and flag
on the footpath. Please let me have views on this
proposal.
PARISH COUNCIL MEETING
The next Parish Council meeting is on 24
September in the School House starting at 7pm.
All are welcome.
